The Date Night Checklist (Grooming Edition)

For some, Valentine’s Day is just another day to celebrate the bachelor life, for others, it’s a day to symbolize the bond you share with that special someone. No matter how you celebrate this upcoming weekend, at the club or on a date, if you’re going out for a nice night on the town, you want to look your best. Yes, the reservations are important, but how you present yourself is just as significant.

Style is articulated by the essence a man exudes. Whether it’s the first date, second date, or you’ve been married for 15+ years; planning is essential. Imagine sitting in the barbershop having to text your date that you have to push your reservations back because your barber has clients ahead of you. When it comes to important events, always think ahead and book your appointment the day before or leave yourself a nice buffer between your cut and date time to ensure that your big night goes according to plan.

So outside from the obvious list of making recommendations and reserving a car service to pick your significant other, here is a checklist of grooming items that I definitely recommend you acknowledge as you prepare for your Valentines Day Dinner, or rather any date. Let’s just call this the Date Night Checklist.

  • Book haircut in advance (one day or at least four (4) hours before the date begins).
  • Clip fingernails (Always use an emery board after you cut your nails for the best results).
  • Pack mints NOT gum

  • Wrinkle Free does not give you a pass, Iron your shirt before heading out the door.

  • Polish your shoes. Whether it require going to your local spit shine parlor or using an instant shoe polisher, make sure your dress shoes have a little shine.

  • Don’t show up empty handed. If flowers aren’t your thing, get creative!

  • If you’re in a big city, book a car service. Otherwise, make sure you schedule time to wash your car.

  • Enjoy the night. You prepared long and hard for this moment, live it up.
