Cutting for a Cure is a “start-up” non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded by Dennis “Denny Moe” Mitchell. After witnessing several relatives and friends affected by cancer and personally being diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2010, Denny Moe has committed to filling the void of health awareness and educational prevention in underserved communities, especially among men, in an environment where they feel comfortable – the barbershop.

The organization’s largest effort is the 48-Hour Health Fair and Hair Cutting Marathon in collaboration with Marsha R. Bonner of the HUGS Movement (Helping Us Grow Spiritually). During this event, barbers from around the globe team up at Denny Moe’s to cut hair for 48 hours straight raising funds towards the prevention of deadly diseases plaguing underserved minority communities. Free medical screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, prostate cancer and HIV/AIDS are available to anyone who attends. The fair also hosts education panels, events and live entertainment.
