Denny Moe
Barber
The bitterness of poor quality last longer than the sweetness of low price
Celebrity barber Dennis Mitchell more affectionately known as “Denny Moe” is fulfilling what he considers his calling. He began cutting hair at the age of 15 and hasn’t stopped since. His rise to fame began with Rapper Doug E. Fresh, his first celebrity client. As a result of hard work and dedication his roster now reflects an extensive list of public figures including Keith Sweat, NE-YO, P. Diddy, New Edition, Eddie Murphy, Jerry Stackhouse and many more. While proud of these accomplishments, Denny Moe considers all of his clients to be superstars. Given this, he aptly named his business Denny Moe’s Superstar Barbershop also paying homage to Robert Flowers who gave him his first job as an up and coming barber at his shop “Superstar Barbershop.”
Since opening his barbershop’s doors in January of 2006, Denny Moe has hosted many events that aim to uplift and empower the community. Denny Moe’s largest community effort is Cutting for a Cure, a non-profit that hosts a 48-Hour Health Fair and Haircutting Marathon. This event provides free access to healthcare and resources while promoting healthier lifestyles in underserved minority communities – particularly among black men. Cutting for a Cure’s 48-Hour Health Fair and Haircutting Marathon has garnered national recognition putting him at the forefront of local businesses impacting change in their communities.
Denny is a recent member of the Community Advisory Board for an NIH-Funded study to improve Organ Donor Registration among black men with the NYU School of Medicine. He is also a community engagement consultant for the MRSA project for the Clinical Directors Network (CDN) in collaboration with Rockefeller University.
